  • Job Summary:

    The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values.

    This individual will provide technical analysis, design, testing, deployment, and support of operational server products.
    This individual is accountable for the following systems: Windows and Application systems to include Servers, Azure, SCCM, GPO, AD, and O365 to include security products. Trend Micro security suite and Sail point user provisioning. May require more than the normal eight-hour workday and also may require 20-25% travel.
     

    Essential Functions:

    SA Engineering and Provisioning
    Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.

    Install and configure systems such as Trend Micro security center, Microsoft Azure, SCCM, and Active Directory applications or Asset Management applications.

    Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.

    Contribute to and maintain system standards.

    Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.  Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.


    Operations and Support
    Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.

    Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies.  Investigate and troubleshoot issues.

    Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.  Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.

    Maintenance
    Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.

    Upgrade and configure systems such as Trend Micro security center, Microsoft Azure, SCCM, and Active Directory applications or Asset Management applications.

    Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.

    Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.

    Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.  Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.

    COMPLEXITY/PROBLEM SOLVING

    Position deals with a variety of problems and sometime has to decide which answer is best. The question/issues are typically clear and requires determination of which answer (from a few choices) is the best.

    Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues. May resolve problems within established practices.

     

    DISCRETION/LATITUDE/DECISION-MAKING:
    Decisions normally have a noticeable effect department-wide and company-wide, and judgment errors can typically require one to two weeks to correct or reverse.

    Other Functions:

    • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, attending training, conferences, and/or courses as directed by the supervisor, and obtaining certifications relevant to job duties.
    • As a member of the SWK Operations Team, supports and contributes to the goals and objectives of the team.

    Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer field required (or equivalent work experience) with a technical major such as engineering or computer science.
    • Master’s degree in computer field preferred
    • Professional Microsoft/Systems Administration/System Engineer certification preferred.
    • Four to six years system administration experience.

    Physical Demands:

    Frequently required to use hands to handle office equipment to include telephones and computer equipment.

    Specific vision abilities required include ability to adjust focus for work with computers. Driving as part of travel requirements, attendance of meetings, and company errands in performance of duties. Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas. While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee must be able to access all components of workstation and other office equipment. Frequent typing, writing, bending and twisting. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

    Work Environment:

    An office environment with constant exposure to computers, telephone equipment, etc. A busy environment with many interruptions. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate. While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.

    General office environment with moderate noise. This position is mostly sedentary, involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods. A busy environment with many unscheduled interruptions. Frequent computer use at workstation for extended periods. Public contact position requiring appropriate business apparel.
