  • Job Summary:

    The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is responsible for guiding and ensuring the development and implementation of the health and safety program for employees at the UM Programs. The OHN is responsible for the coordination of Infection Prevention and Control including: identify, prevent, and control outbreaks of infection in the SWK facilities, creating infectious disease and communicable disease exposure plans, policies and processes. Additional responsibilities include ensuring compliance with regulations in policy development and implementation, as well as on-going program refinement based on advances in the program.

    Essential Functions:

    • Develop and coordinate the infection prevention and control program in multiple facilities.
    • Develop and implement infectious disease and occupational health plan, policies, and processes.
    • Track, trend and analyze data related to the effectiveness infection control measures.
    • Prepare written reports and presentations, and deliver to appropriate audiences as needed.
    • Conduct research and develop communications related to effective infectious disease control measures.
    • Creating strategies and action plans for the prevention of outbreaks.
    • Investigate possible outbreaks and identify the proper resources and actions in response to a communicable disease exposure.
    • Develop and maintain a standardized TB Control Program for the organization.
    • Create and implement tools to monitor and audit the effectiveness of policies and procedures.
    • Directs and assist in preparing reports and statistical data for the infection control analysis of the programs
    • Identify and implement the recommendations from Public Health Departments, CDC and ORR
    • Coordinate regional meetings, training agenda, and presentations for program staff on occupational health topics.
    • Monitor health services provided by other health professionals as they relate to employee care in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures, state licensing and federal guidelines.
    • Participate in the development and delivery of on the job training for nurses, and medical staff as needed.
    • Provide health management, effective communication, and leadership in the execution and direction of quality services to employees.
    • Identify infection control equipment and supplies needed to maintain a safe environment for employees and the community.
    • Maintain the vaccination data for all programs and ensure compliance with applicable policies and processes.

    • Participate in the development and implementation of the Return to Work Programs
    • Supervise and train the employee occupational health medical team.

    Other Functions:

    • Conduct investigations and develop appropriate responses to outbreaks and other workplace injuries and illnesses as needed.
    • Develop and maintain ongoing partnerships and communication with medical providers, Health Departments and other agencies.
    • Must be available to travel to other cities, states, SWK sites, and community sites as needed to support necessary program operations and as needed for required training and implementation of new initiatives.
    • Participate in and comply with all meetings, assignments and process improvement.
    • Demonstrate the ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
    • Maintain professional, confidential and ethical standards guidelines by Southwest Key and other entities.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Registered Nurse (RN) AND active unencumbered State of Texas Nursing License.
    • Must have graduated from an approved RN nursing program approved by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN)
    • Must have passed the appropriate RN NCLEX Exam approved by the TBON.
    • Minimum 2 years of full-time direct service delivery experience
    • Must possess medical assessment and treatment skills with diverse employee populations and children.
    • Must possess the ability to train staff, prepare reports and recommendations for medical and administrative use, and have the ability to work with employees in community-based programs, clinics, hospitals, public health departments or federal agencies. Must embrace cultural diversity awareness.

     

    Must demonstrate exceptional:

    • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problem, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
    • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Bilingual Preferred. (Spanish/English) Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to effectively present information to executive management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to communicate and respond to common inquiries or complaints from both clients and staff from a variety of disciplines.
    • SUPERVISORY SKILLS: Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    • Compliance with pre-service drug testing
    • Cleared Tuberculosis test results.
    • Immunization: Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Td/Tdap), Varicella, Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), Hepatitis A & B.
    • Cleared background check.
    • Cleared drug test results (for Texas programs only).
    • Valid Drivers’ License
    • Comply with annual training requirements/licensure/certifications.

    Physical Demands:

    • Bending, stooping, and lifting a minimum of 10 lbs. required to complete daily tasks
    • Must have the ability to remain in standing position for extended periods of the work day

    Work Environment:

    Ability to work a flexible work schedule is required dependent upon the department, facility or program in which s/he works and job duties assigned. Work schedules are subject to variation from time to time depending on the needs of the department, facility or program.
