  • Job Summary:

    The Director of Curriculum Development will lead the design, implementation and evaluation of all Southwest Key curriculum and learner development programs, in accordance with organizational priorities and strategies.  This position is charged with understanding performance and skill gaps of program staff and leaders and improving learner outcomes.  This will be accomplished by sound training needs analysis, effective training design, organized session implementation plans, and consistent training evaluation.  The ideal candidate is an accomplished, high energy, collaborative leader who has experience working with managers and leaders at all levels, and a proven record of accomplishment in training and adult curriculum design.  This role will lead a small design team and report directly to the Director of Learning and Development. 

    Essential Functions:

    • Consults with program leaders, regional business owners, and other subject matter experts in the design and development of new curricula, training courses, learning modules and implements any updates needed to these products.
    • Adheres to industry accepted curriculum development models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, etc.), applying the professional design principles as appropriate to the development assignment.
    • Conducts research on best practices to design, develop, and evaluate the assigned content. Develops and maintains a research database that may be utilized to develop and review curriculum.
    • Creates and maintains an analysis, design, development, and evaluation assessment tool to ensure training effectiveness.
    • Maintains an appropriate budget for design tools, computer technology, and other resources to ensure the output from the design team is innovative, but effective and appropriate for the audience.
    • Coordinates the review/assessment of current curriculum to ensure that course/program is meeting learning objectives and requirements.
    • Prepares instructional material for printing and develops outlines with the necessary basic detail to direct instruction.  Prepares facilitator guides and other materials to support the training goals and outcomes.
    • Monitors course piloting and implementation process to review/make recommendations for how to improve and edit curricula. Creates an annual or periodic review calendar. 
    • Identifies and leads a team of designers and developers who will assist in curriculum development.
    • Actively pursues professional development opportunities to continue to learn best practices in curriculum writing and evaluation.
    • Be a trusted advisor/consultant to the business by building the necessary relationships to prepare and influence the Learning and Development department vision.
    • Leverages multiple delivery methods to ensure training is easy to consume and take into account limited employee capacity and principles of adult learning styles.
    • Partners with external vendors, where appropriate, and manage curriculum development budget and vendor agreements.
    • Leads curriculum development taskforce groups to ensure SWK remains compliant and timely with all licensing, funding, legal, and organization-wide training requirements.
    • Works effectively under deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously, keen attention to detail, responsiveness to multiple requests and changing priorities.

    Other Functions:

    • Assist with managing various training events.
    • May assist with facilitating leadership training programs and learner focus groups.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    A professional and educational combination of the following:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Curriculum Development, Instructional Design.
    • Five years of leadership experience required, preferably leading a team of Instructional Designers, trainers, or curriculum developers.
    • Extensive knowledge of Adult Learning Theory, Instructional Strategies and Learning Assessments, as well as knowledge of how to apply personality or leadership assessment methodology, interpretation, and feedback and multi-rater assessment tools to the development of supplemental curriculum.
    • Ability to creatively solve problems through training design an intervention.
    • Extensive working knowledge of modern curriculum authoring tools, such as Captivate, Camptasia,
    • Excellent verbal skills, written communication skills, and stakeholder manage.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.
    • Ability to establish trust and a strong presence and influence with executives at all levels.
    • Ability to navigate horizontally in the organization and create collaborative, cross-functional solutions.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish.
    • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Training, Organization Development, or related field with a total of three (3) years supervisory/administrative experience.
    • Experience in working in a non-profit, behavioral health environment.
    • Working knowledge or familiarity with leadership models such as Covey, Maxwell, Emotional Intelligence, Strengthsfinder, or similar business leadership curricula.

    Physical Demands:

    Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas. While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee must be able to access all components of the work station and other office equipment.  Frequent typing, writing, bending and twisting.  Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.  Travel by air or car up to 10%

    Work Environment:

    General office environment with moderate noise.  This position may involve facilitating a training class, or moving around throughout large rooms and buildings.  Work location(s) may vary and may include a busy environment with many unscheduled interruptions. Frequent computer use at workstation for extended periods of time. Public contact position requiring appropriate business apparel and ability to interact frequently with others.
