Job Summary:

The ESL coordinator is responsible for developing an ESL curriculum and facilitating training to teachers in order to be able to enhance the teaching skills within the classrooms. ESL coordinator prepares course material and develops lesson plans that cover all aspects of the English Language emphasizing the development of four basic skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The ESL Coordinator keeps track of students' progress and customizes individualized plans for students with unique requirements. Moreover, the ESL Coordinator endures the delivery of the classes, ensuring innovative ESL teaching methods, finalizing with a review of best practices and areas of progress to ensure effective teaching strategies.



Essential Functions:

  • Oversees all ESL services to students and oversees all students that require language assistance.
  • Submits ESL educational lessons in written format to Regional Director in a timely manner.
  • Provides ESL educational programming that follows state standards.
  • Identify students’ languages needs to effectively provide tools and strategies methods to accurately accommodate individual youth needs.
  • Incorporate ESL strategies to emphasize vocational topics including college preparation, technical and practical professions, as preparation for a future career path. Further highlighting core skills; effective communication, integrity, ethics, time management, organization and planning, and problem solving, and maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Assists in the supervision of the overall delivery of curriculum and ensure lesson plans from non-certified instructional staff are developed with program standards.
  • Ensures that the ESL curriculum is accurately implemented, as required by SWK guidelines.
  • Develops communications, life skills, writing and self-advocacy using ESL educational programming that follows state standards.
  • Incorporates numerous opportunities to engage ESL teachers as learners, offering them the opportunity to apply new skills and knowledge.
  • Trains teachers to develop their personal and professional abilities, improving their knowledge, skills and practice, leading to their empowerment and efficient use of the ESL curriculum in every Program.
  • Monitors equipment such as tablets and books inventory. Coordinates requisition and use of educational materials as needed.

Other Functions:

  • Attend all organizational required training
  • Attend all departmental and program meetings to ensure that up-to-date information is received and/or information of policy changes or practices are adhered to.
  • Follows daily schedule and allows for routine or scheduled changes, as necessary.
  • Role models appropriate behaviors for all students and teachers.
  • Maintains a professional and ethical relationship with staff, students, and outside entities.
  • Assists in student supervision as needed.
  • Assists with classroom walk-throughs when necessary.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be objective in providing structure for students.
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in the field of Education with emphasis in ESL.
  • At least two years paid or unpaid experience working with youth in a bilingual setting preferred.
  • Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Cleared Tuberculosis test results.
  • Cleared background check from appropriate entity.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to obtain Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification and First Aid Certification (CPR). While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to bend, lift, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hand or hands. You must be able to lift 20 pounds.

Work Environment:

General office environment with moderate noise. This position is mostly sedentary, involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. A busy environment with many unscheduled interruptions. Frequent computer use of workstation for extended periods of time. Public contact position requiring appropriate business apparel.
