Job Summary:

 

The Mental Health Services Specialist will provide expert guidance and consultation on complex mental health cases. Collaborate with staff to assess the mental health needs of the population and develop tailored intervention plans. Conduct regular case reviews and provide ongoing support to ensure effective implementation of mental health services. Offer technical assistance to programs, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of mental health issues and best practices in the field. Develop and deliver training sessions to enhance the capacity of staff in addressing mental health challenges among the population. Work collaboratively with the management team to develop and implement best practice models for mental health services. Evaluate existing mental health protocols and recommend enhancements based on evidence-based practices and industry standards. Establish a continuous quality improvement process to monitor and refine mental health services over time.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide expert guidance and consultation on complex mental health cases within the organization.
  • Collaborate with shelter staff to assess the mental health needs of clients and develop tailored intervention plans.
  • Conduct regular case reviews and provide ongoing support to ensure effective implementation of mental health services.
  • Offer technical assistance to shelter staff, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of mental health issues and best practices in the field.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions to enhance the capacity of staff in addressing mental health challenges among clients.
  • Stay abreast of the latest research, trends, and innovations in mental health to inform and improve services.
  • Work collaboratively with the management team to develop and implement best practice models for mental health services within shelter programs.
  • Evaluate existing mental health protocols and recommend enhancements based on evidence-based practices and industry standards.
  • Establish a continuous quality improvement process to monitor and refine mental health services over time.
  • Foster positive relationships with external mental health organizations, practitioners, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with local agencies and professionals to enhance referral networks and ensure a comprehensive continuum of care for clients.
  • Participate in relevant community meetings and forums to stay connected with local mental health resources and developments.

Other Functions:

  • Develop and maintain project plans for new based on evidence-based practices and industry standards, training sessions, and effective implementation of mental health services.
  • Proactively manage timelines.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Must adapt to the organization's technological platforms and strategic changes.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing mental health services, particularly with youth.
  • Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
  • Available to undertake frequent and extended travel as required. 

Preferred:

  • Licensed Mental Health Professional (e.g., LCSW, LPC, Psychologist).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Physical Demands:

Must be able to drive and travel, as needed. Other requirements include daily use of various office equipment, frequent typing, and writing, as well as bending, twisting, stooping, climbing upstairs, and lifting up to 15 lbs. items that may be required to complete tasks. Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas.

Work Environment:

General office environment with moderate noise. This position is mostly sedentary, and involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. A busy environment with many unscheduled interruptions.  Frequent computer use at a workstation for extended periods of time. Public contact position requiring appropriate business apparel.
