Job Summary:

The Career Support Specialist provides participant support and conducts oversight and monitoring of the “TEA INTERNSHIP PROJECT” (Internship) program, a subsidized work experience program for high school juniors and seniors.  The Specialist will work up to 40 hours per week providing support to internship participants, monitoring participant and worksite activities, and identifying and resolving issues per internship standards and policies.  This is a temporary assignment lasting up to 12 weeks. Applicants must be willing and able to make in-person contacts with participants and worksite supervisors.

Essential Functions:

  • Review and collect weekly payroll records for accuracy and ensure records are relayed timely for payroll processing.
  • Monitor Internship participants and worksites/supervisors to verify conformance with TEA standards/policies. Notify supervisor of quality/compliance issues.
  • Document monitoring outcomes for designated stakeholders.
  • Identify and report participant/worksite/supervisor issues and coordinate proper resolution with Regional Director, WIOA staff, Business Services Unit and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in job readiness, payroll and employer orientations/workshops.
  • Provide support and guidance to TEA participants, as needed.
  • Maintain system accountability for meeting standards established by Southwest Key Workforce, Board and other applicable agencies.

Other Functions:

  • Travel to attend meetings, training and other activities.
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Associate degree or 60 college credit hours with one year previous paid work experience.
  • Job requires 50-75% travel throughout Cameron County.
  • Must have valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and reliable transportation.
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, etc.)
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with the communities being served.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local needs and resources.

Preferred:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas.
  • While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee must be able to access all components of workstation and other office equipment.
  • Frequent typing, writing, bending and twisting.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment:

Includes both a typical office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues, and local travel, including exposure to heat, cold, inclement weather conditions, and occasional environmental hazards.
