Job Summary:

 

The Lead Recreation and Vocational Coordinator is responsible for monitoring the recreation activities and vocational curricula within the assigned Unaccompanied Minor’s program. The Lead Recreation and Vocational Coordinator is required to maintain a flexible, organized and efficient work schedule and is subject to work extended hours, weekends, and be on-call.

Essential Functions:

  • Promote, coordinate, and execute a variety of recreational activities, including religious services, regional events, acculturation events, and volunteer events where youth participate or receive services.
  • Coordinate services with all departments to ensure coordinated efforts in addressing the care and treatment of all clients.
  • Responsible for coordinating and maintaining a robust and fully functional Youth Council in accordance with organizational policy.
  • Oversee the recreation and vocational education programs, including the assessment, development and implementation of policies and procedures in compliance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Create and maintain staff work schedules and recommend approval or dis-approval of personal leave requests, holiday leave requests, and/or sick leave requests to Program Director or designee.
  • Effectively address any concerns related to employee performance and promptly report them to the Program Director or authorized representative, while also ensuring that all discussions are documented appropriately. It is imperative to follow Southwest Key policy and procedures at all times.
  • Support the development of the recreation and vocational team, through onboarding interviews and selection process, coordinate OJT process and provide ongoing coaching, evaluations and appraisals.
  • Supports the morale of recreation and vocational team through team builders, strenghth-based feedback and opportunities for recognition.
  • Maintain inventory of vocational education and recreation materials and equipment and ensure that recreation and vocational departments have the equipment and supplies required to deliver quality service.
  • Collaborate with Recreational and Vocational coordinators to develop and implement curricula that are appropriate for the developmental stage and age of the students.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and hazard-free educational facility/classroom in collaboration with Education department.
  • Manage the departmental budget and purchase orders in collaboration with the program director or designee.
  • Collaborate with Program Leadership teams to ensure compliance with guidelines established by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), State Licensing, and Southwest Key policies and procedures that are relevant to the Recreation and Vocational departments.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations related to the recreational and vocational programming, and deliver them to appropriate audiences as required.
  • Monitor vocational education and recreation documentation for compliance and quality.
  • Track program participation attendance numbers and program satisfaction.
  • Document all actions taken and contacts with youth, sponsor, and stakeholders in the form of progress notes (efforts) as required by SWK, State and Federal contracts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Functions:

  • Complete all organizational required training.
  • Attend all departmental and program meetings to ensure that up-to-date information is received and/or information of policy changes or practices are adhered to.
  • Attend training that will enhance professional growth.
  • Must assist in the evacuation of youth as needed due to inclement weather conditions, natural disasters, or other unforeseen occurrences.
  • Travel as needed for trainings, conferences or to transport youth to destinations located within the S.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and hazard-free work area.
  • Ensure the proper supervision of youth at all times.
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A combination of one of the following:
    • Preferred Bachelor’s degree required in education or other related field and/or
    • Two (2) years of experience teaching within a residential, institutional or educational setting and supervisory experience.
  • Experience with curriculum development.
  • Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (Word Perfect, Microsoft Word, Excel, presentation software, electronic health record software)
  • Required to work a flexible schedule to facilitate program services.
  • Cleared Tuberculosis test results.
  • Cleared background check from appropriate entity.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Cleared drug test results (this one is for Texas programs only).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to obtain Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification and First Aid Certification (CPR). Must be able to supervise clients indoors and outdoors as necessary. Bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs. required to complete daily tasks. Job requires extended periods of sitting; use of various office equipment.

Work Environment:

This is a twenty-four-hour residential facility at which minors receive multiple services. Three shifts per twenty-four-hour period. Work shifts are subject to change. Noise levels vary from mild to moderate. Predominantly indoors, occasional outdoor monitoring or activities.
