Job Summary:

 

The Mentor Recruitment & Retention Specialist is responsible for recruitment, screening, training, matching and supporting Mentors and Mentees relationships. The Mentor Recruitment & Retention Specialist will facilitate recruitment campaigns and process potential Volunteer Mentors. The Mentor Recruitment and Retention Specialist facilitates individual and group mentoring sessions, organizes monthly Mentoring activities and implements the program utilizing curriculums and adheres to the Elements of Effective Mentoring Practices. This position requires 75% travel to meet the needs of the program.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist and implement a mentor recruitment and youth outreach plan.
  • Create, present and distribute recruitment materials as needed in public events and various publications.
  • Support the retention process for mentors and mentees at the program.
  • Cultivate community, organization, and collegiate partnerships that will provide an ongoing supply of potential mentors.
  • Recruit and train mentors and provide ongoing regularly scheduled training.
  • Orient Mentees and parents to the Mentor Program.
  • Develop and implement short and long-term retention strategies to ensure an optimal geographic balance between youth involved with the program and prospective mentors.
  • Assist with planning and implement public awareness campaigns.
  • Participate in community events, fairs, and festivals for recruitment purposes.
  • Collaborate with local and national mentoring organizations.
  • Track outcome data and submit reports as needed.
  • Meet monthly and annual target numbers.
  • Provide case management services as needed including referrals and linkages.
  • Provide virtual services as needed.

Other Functions:

  • Attend and participate in all required professional trainings and workshops.
  • Maintain open and consistent communication with Program Director or designee and other team members.
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
  • Work evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 1-2 years of experience in recruitment, training, volunteer management, and social services or combination equivalent of education and experience for a minimum total of 5 years. 
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Internet. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and multi-tasking skills, and be able to work under pressure.  
  • Self-starter, detail-oriented, excellent follow-up and organization skills, report writing and presentation skills.
  • Preferred Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Physical Demands:

Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas. While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee must be able to access all components of work station and other office equipment. Frequent typing, writing, bending and twisting. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment:

General office environment with moderate noise. This is a traveling position with frequent visits to program locations.  A busy environment with many unscheduled interruptions. Frequent computer use at workstation for extended periods of time. Public contact position requiring appropriate business apparel.
