Job Summary:

The System Administrator I is responsible for installing, configuring, documenting, and maintaining the data and telecommunications infrastructure for Southwest Key Programs. The position may require more work hours than the normal eight-hour workday and also may require 20-25% travel. Some weekends required.

Essential Functions:

  • Comprehensive understanding of server and network hardware and software in an enterprise environment
  • Manages and maintains the domain administration including Active Directory/Group Policy and email accounts for the enterprise.
  • Performs scheduled system and network performance tuning and maintenance.
  • Installs, configures and maintains the server, desktop, laptop as well as network hardware and software.
  • Monitors and maintains system security to include maintaining firewalls, antivirus, spyware & system software updates and monitoring security logs.
  • Coordinates with vendors of internet and telecommunications services to have appropriate service installed and maintained at program locations; assists in resolving internet and phone issues.
  • Administers all applications servers; proactively monitors, troubleshoots, reports, resolves, and escalates issues identified with the Exchange email server, SQL, Domain Controllers, backup and restore.
  • Performs disaster recovery planning, and is responsible for managing the Southwest Key data backup and recovery systems; proactively monitors, troubleshoots, reports, resolves, and escalates issues.
  • Administers VMware hosts and network infrastructure enterprise wide.
  • Oversees cabling and cable management projects
  • Ability to collaborate with staff at every level of the organization
  • Ability to apply sound business judgement in decision-making

Other Functions:

  • Takes user requests over the telephone, e-mail and documents all issues in the Southwest Key Helpdesk ticket tracking system.
  • Takes ownership of assigned tasks and provides excellent customer service in a responsive, respectful manner.
  • Troubleshoots, resolves or escalate hardware and software problems proactively or as identified by users.
  • Monitors and maintains system security to include maintaining firewalls, antivirus, spyware & system software updates and monitoring security logs.
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
  • Administers all cloud based systems such as: Office365 and its counterparts, Kronos, GP Dynamics and Mitel phone system and electronic document management system
  • Proactively monitors network health with remote tools such as: Kaseya and LANSweeper
  • Ability to write scripts in PowerShell.
  • Responsible for server room and co-location infrastructure maintenance
  • Assists and recommends purchase of networking and server equipment including large project assistance and negation
  • Works to mentor other system administrator to provide a growth environment through leadership.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher or ten (10) years’ experience in information technology and at least 5 years’ experience as a systems administrator in an enterprise-level environment.
  • Thorough understanding of Microsoft Windows server environments including Active Directory, Exchange, IIS, SQL Server, Domains, Trusts, Security, DHCP & DNS.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational, and writing skills.
  • Skill in evaluating and analyzing operations and procedures, including prioritizing, scheduling and coordinating work projects
  • VMware experience.
  • Must be familiar with Dell server, SANs and network switches.

Physical Demands:

Frequently required to use hands to handle office equipment to include telephones and computer equipment.

Specific vision abilities required include ability to adjust focus for work with computers. Occasionally required to drive to program locations in performance of duties. Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas. While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee must be able to access all components of work station and other office equipment. Frequent typing, writing, bending and twisting. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

General office environment with moderate noise. This position is mostly sedentary, involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. A busy environment with many unscheduled interruptions. Frequent computer use at workstation for extended periods of time. Public contact position requiring appropriate business apparel.
